Since it was just National Dog Day – although in our house that is every day – what better time to talk about bark!  We have three dogs and a very busy household, so we automatically have lots of barking at all times. However, most of the time I’m convinced they aren’t actually sure what they are barking at, and perhaps they are just backing up their siblings.

As a matter of fact, maybe my kids do the same thing… Although they would say we bark orders at them just as often. I would like to think that is not the case, but since I don’t know anything it’s hard to say 😉

Nature does have a lot of other types of barks. This summer we saw a fox mom and a cub. I made eye contact with the mom so she barked to her cub to pay attention. I had never heard a fox before so not only do they bark (pretty high pitched), but I guess she answered that lingering question.

There are other barks that are more pleasing like – the bark on trees, especially crepe myrtles and birch trees. The texture is beautiful and interesting.

So maybe take a little time to take in the beauty of bark!
